I was thinking the other day how long it has been since I've had certain things. Things that I used to LOVE to eat. Its kinda scary to think about considering that at one point in time I didn't pay ANY attention to what I ate or drank, and I did it in excess too. I was a HUGE snacker and a late night snacker. It was terrible. I was thinking about how much I have changed and how much as a family we have changed everything that we eat. So, I started writing things down and here is the list I came up with .....
soda - 10 months ago
boxed dinners ( ex: Hamburger helper/ frozen dinners ) - 10 months ago
fried foods ( fried chicken/ french fries ) - 10 months ago
FAST FOOD - 8 months ago ( this one took a little longer to give up lol )
refined sugars ( candy/ boxed cakes/ packaged cookies ) - 8 months ago
white breads/ white flour pasta - 6 months ago
non-organic fruits and veggies - 6 months ago
non-organic just about anything ! lol - 6 months ago ( key words JUST ABOUT ! lol )
I think it's funny to see how things changed as my efforts changed. I started out by just cutting out the things that I knew were bad for me. Then the tougher changes came, and then finally my change to my current "clean eating" diet. This change in my diet has not been easy by any means of the imagination, but looking back at how long it's been since I've had these things it makes me feel so good. I really for the most part have no desire for these things anymore either. Every once in a while I will have a craving, but saying no and having will power feels so much better than that candy bar ( or what have you ) is going to make me feel. My whole family has made this change too ( mainly because I am the only one who cooks ! ) and it makes me feel even better that my kids will ask for healthy things now. I mean sure they ask for candy and junk when they see it, they are kids, but I love how excited they get for a fresh organic apple or a bag of veggie chips. It makes me feel so good about these changes that we have made for us as a family not just me as one person trying to loose weight. I think that is why it has become so easy and natural for me, because we know we are doing the right thing. I can't wait to start my garden this year so I can have fresh organic veggies growing in my back yard !!!! Plus then I can save on the gas it takes to get to the next town over to get my organic veggies. lol I can't wait to get the kids involved in the whole process too. Teach them the importance of organic farming !
